Specialty Polymers
Your solution for high performance engineering themoplastics
About Us:
Specialty Polymers, LLC specializes in molding thick-wall stock shape cylinders, rods, tubes, and sheets from high-performance engineering thermoplastics. Our Patent Pending DIM process yields larger parts dimensions and cross-sections, which are not commercially or readily available through traditional molding methods. Not only does DIM increase size capability, but the part qualities are significantly better than those of conventional molding processes. The DIM process is also vastly more efficient in terms of time, energy and labor, savings which we can pass down to our consumers. We can also mold quantities from single digits to thousands of parts.
Displacement Intrusion Molding (DIM) is a culmination of nearly 20 years of research in high-temperature/high-performance engineering thermoplastic molding technology. The process has been developed to address the global need for superior quality, thick-wall parts with large cross-sectional area which have not been successfully molded by conventional methods i.e. injection, compression, or extrusion molding.
DIM fills a void and bridges the gap between injection, extrusion, and compression molding technology. Specialty Polymers LLC molds high-temperature/high-performance engineering thermoplastics such as PEEK, PEKK, PBI, PPS, PI, PAI and other top-tier engineering thermoplastics that are notoriously difficult to to mold into large dimensions and thick-walled cross-sectional areas.

Our Story:
Our founder Dr. Razmik Akopyan saw room for improvement for molding thick-walled stock shapes and capitalized on the opportunity to develop such a process. In 1999, he filed his first U.S. Patent for molding large cross-section shapes from high-performance engineering thermoplastics via radio-frequency (RF) heating. Since then, the process has gone through significant evolution and several iterations to become the most cost and energy efficient while providing superior part results. The current DIM process is poised to be a disruptive technology to existing molding technologies and products. Specialty Polymers, LLC was recently granted a new Patent to commercialize a novel intrusion-compression molding process Displacement Intrusion Molding (DIM). Specialty Polymers LLC brings over 2 decades of high-performance thermoplastic molding experience, and owns and operates the only proprietary DIM equipment known in existence. We are located in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
